Mexico City Security Strategy Update

Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), presented the advances of the National Security Strategy from October 1 to November 8 during the Morning Conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo on Tuesday, November 12, from the National Palace.

Minutes earlier, Marcela Figueroa, head of the National Executive Secretariat of Public Security (SENSP), reported on trends in crime rates, which, according to data from the Government of Mexico, have decreased on average.

The security report highlights 3,015 individuals detained for high-impact crimes, 1,334 firearms seized, and 42 tons of drugs confiscated. Among the significant arrests is Zhi Dong "N", accused of international money laundering, an intermediary between cartels, and with an extradition order to the United States. Additionally, 15 clandestine methamphetamine labs were dismantled, and arrests were made for crimes in different states of Mexico.

The report for the period from January 2015 to October 2024 shows a 17.3% decrease in the daily average of homicides, with the current daily average being 83. Furthermore, there is a 35.8% reduction in the daily average of high-impact crimes and a 40.5% decrease in the incidence of federal crimes.

The case of Sinaloa shows an increase in daily homicides in September and October, followed by a decrease in November with a preliminary daily average of 3.91 homicides.
